WHMCS Hacker Issues
WHMCS is a popular billing system that's used by plenty of companies around the world. Today, the billing company has issued a warning to users that web hosting companies might be at risk when using the WHMCS site.
As it turns out, there's a hole in the new WHMCS update, and that hole allows hackers to create valid logins, and then steal user data using those log-ins. Unfortunately, it's not hard for someone to create a WHMCS log-in, so this particular weakness in the WHMCS website could be detrimental to many web hosting companies.
WHMCS Hacker Issues: A Quick Fix
So far, the company has been issuing updates in order to fix the problem. CloudFlare, a WHMCS client, has also created a ruleset for that company's current clients. Anyone that's presently using CloudFlare's Web Application Firewall (WAF) can also use CloudFlare's ruleset to create a safe log-in.
Cheap hosting websites and other hosting sites are often targeted by hackers looking to tap into hosting client information. This is currently what's happening with WHMCS. When hackers are able to find a loophole in any kind of program, they tend to go directly for companies that offer hosting services. In short: if you use WHMCS, keep looking for service updates. What else can you do?
WHMCS Hacker Issues: Preventing Hacks
It's really tough to stop hackers from breaking into a hosting website when that site has been compromised by another service provider. In those cases, there's not much you can do other than to stop using that particular service until the problem has been fixed. Otherwise, it's a great idea to make sure that your site is up to date.
Not only do you have to keep your hosting site up-to-date and protected against hackers at all times, it's also important that you check in on any program that you are currently using. Most hosting owners do not think of this, but any program that's connected to your website can open the gates for hackers – so stay on top of company news and make sure to sign up for those newsletters.
