ObamaCare Hosting Issue
If you live in the United States, it should come as no surprise that the current ObamaCare website is less than satisfactory. With a massive influx of users, the site's host simply couldn't keep up. While this isn't an uncommon problem for sites that aren't prepared for a flood of users, it's a really big problem for a government site that thousands of people are currently relying on.
Recognizing the problems, Obama has told press that he plans on addressing the issue during a press conference that will be held later today. Obama has also stated that the current site status is not acceptable, and that this mess shouldn't have happened to begin with. So, what went wrong?
ObamaCare Hosting Issue: A Poor Planning Process
It all starts with bad planning from the start. Setting up a website that thousands of Americans will access at once should have given site developers some clue as to the traffic that would hit the site. For some reason, this massive amount of traffic was not taken into consideration, and now there's a site roadblock.
As more and more people try to access the site, the site simply keeps slowing down. Even though some administrators told the public that the site would eventually pick up speed, this hasn't happened yet. What else is a president to do? Obama will address the press, and hopefully that address will put some minds at ease. For now, the site remains crammed and full of too many hits.
ObamaCare Hosting Issue: What We Can Derive
In the ObamaCare case, it was clear from the start that thousands (maybe millions) of people would be trying to access the site at the same time. So, there's really no reason or excuse for a blocked or slow site (they should have been prepared). In most cases, though, it's hard to know how many people will be accessing your site at once.
What can you do? Take a lesson from the ObamaCare site, and make sure that you are prepared for whatever comes your way. You might not expect thousands of hits at once, but this can absolutely happens – when it does, it will pay to be prepared for the worst. Otherwise, you never know how many clients you may lose due to a badly planned website.
ObamaCare Hosting Issue: Start With Your Hosting Package
If you have recently chosen a cheap hosting package, make sure that any hosting company you work with can keep up with the demand for your site. Otherwise, you will wind up in a bad situation. You don't have to go for the biggest and most expensive package right away, but do choose one that can accommodate a massive influx of users if that might happen.
Otherwise, you'll wind up with a site that simply can't handle the traffic it gets – and that's not a good thing at all. If you're just setting up your website now, make sure that everything will go smoothly by selecting the right hosting package – and host! Need help? Ask away!
