How to Set up WordPress Using GoDadddy

How to Set up WordPress Using GoDadddyNeed help setting up WordPress while using GoDaddy? This can be a completely frustrating task for anyone that's tried! Here's what you need to do in order to make it all work.

Choose Your Hosting Package

When you sign up for GoDaddy, you will be asked to choose your web hosting package. Do not select the WordPress package.

  • Choose the ‘Web Hosting' package.

The ‘WordPress' hosting option is simply a marketing ploy. Okay, now that you've chosen the Web Hosting package, you'll need to select the right plan.

Choose Your GoDaddy Plan

Normally, a basic plan works – but not this time. Fork over that extra $1 per month, and you can have as many websites as you want with the ‘Deluxe Plan.' Now, you'll need to log into your account with the username/password combo that you've been given (after you purchase that Deluxe Plan).

How to Set up WordPress Using GoDadddy: Putting It Together

  • Choose the ‘Hosting' link on the right side of the screen.
  • Your hosting panel will launch.
  • Choose ‘Your Domains.'
  • Choose ‘Add Domain.'
  • Type the name of your domain in the space provided.
  • Choose the ‘Home' tab once your domain has been entered.
  • Select the ‘Your Applications' button.
  • Choose ‘Blogs' on the left hand side of the screen.
  • Choose ‘WordPress.'
  • Select ‘Install New.'
  • Choose the domain name that you want to set up.
  • Leave the ‘WordPress' description, and select your password information.
  • Type your blog name into the space provided – remove the ‘yoursite.com' if you just want your URL to appear.
  • Choose the Admin name and password – this is what will get you into your blog each time, so select something that you will remember!
  • Click ‘Finish.'
  • Wait For GoDaddy to Build Your Blog

After you tap that ‘Finish' button, you will let GoDaddy know that the company should begin building your blog. Once the blog has been built, GoDaddy will let you know via email. Once you receive that email, you can then log into your WordPress account, and set up your blog as you like.

Since the default GoDaddy theme is really bad, you'll want to mess around with your WordPress themes to find one that suits the site you are attempting to build. If you have any experience with WordPress, you can easily play around with themes. Heck, if you don't have experience, it's still easy to mess around with themes – WordPress is pretty much fool proof.

How to Set up WordPress Using GoDadddy: Skip Those Plugins

The only thing that I will suggest is that you don't install too many WordPress plugins. When a number of plugins have been installed, the result is often conflicting plugins. So, as you can see, setting up a WordPress blog using GoDaddy isn't as complicated as it may seem.

The trick is to select the right hosting package from the start, and to go through all of the options manually. Sure, it may take longer to set up a blog this way, but you'll run into a lot less snags along the way. Once your WordPress blog is up and running, you shouldn't have too many additional issues.

One more thing: GoDaddy support doesn't really deal with WordPress much, so you may have to iron out some kinks on your own. Or, you can just visit this blog to figure out what to do next. Questions? Just ask.
